Multiculturalism: Clinical Implications
Presented by: Mary Blessington, MA, MSW, LCSW
3 CE hrs. - $60

Culture affects every aspect of our lives. It determines the people we live with, the clothes we wear and the food we eat. It is so intrinsic to our sense of what is right and ‘normal,’ it is difficult to suspend our cultural precepts to see into someone else’s culture. Yet as clinicians, this is exactly what we must do. This interactive presentation will give you tools for getting outside of your cultural box in order to be more effective with those who differ from you.

Invisible in School: The Plight of Foster Children in Schools
Presented by: Phyllis Nasta LPC, Certified School Counselor
3 CE hrs. - $60

Foster children, already in crisis from disruption in their family lives, often experience a continuation of trauma as they navigate the public school system. Lack of communication between CPS and schools, difficulty in obtaining records on them and being unintentionally excluded from many of the activities that create a vibrant culture in school conspire to block them from having successful academic lives. This workshop discusses the specifics and gives concrete suggestions of how to improve their academic
experience.

Presented by: Vicky Stromee, MEd, LPC

Ethical decision making is more than knowing the laws and rules. It’s about finding our way through the complexities of a therapeutic relationship and making choices that honor our responsibilities to clients, ourselves, and our community. The presentation’s emphasis is on individuals developing a clearly articulated map for working their way through ethical dilemmas. Participants will have a clear understanding of the five factors for consideration when resolving an ethical dilemma. The workshop is interactive and application based.
