 Volunteer Opportunities

JFCS offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals or groups who seek to be of service to the community.  JFCS matches volunteer’s skills, interests, availability and passion to help carry out JFCS’ mission.

Due to the vulnerable nature of the populations served by JFCS, all volunteers undergo an Arizona Department of Economic Security background check.  Volunteers wishing to help with any of the direct client opportunities listed below also need to have a current Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the State of Arizona.  Applications for both these requirements are available through JFCS.

Friendly Visitor - Would you like to help JFCS enrich the lives of older Holocaust Survivors in the Tucson community through social contact and companionship? Volunteers meet clients at their homes, in assisted living facilities, or at a public location.  Many clients have little or no family in town and are isolated.  Most speak English but some speak Russian only.  If you have Russian language skills, this is a good opportunity to practice. Volunteers are required to have a current Fingerprint Clearance Card with the State of Arizona. JFCS can help you though the clearance card process.

Intake Assistance - JFCS receives many inquiries and requests for emergency financial assistance and counseling.  Volunteers help by following up and referring clients to other JFCS services. Volunteers must be able to documents their conversations with clients by using the agency's file management system.  This is a perfect opportunity for a compassionate person who can also maintain appropriate boundaries.  Skills needed for this position include phone skills, familiarity with office equipment, database experience and attention to detail.

Facilities Projects - You can help JFCS better serve clients by enhancing the building environment with landscaping, gardening, painting, remodeling, cleaning and building repair projects. Training is provided but, a minimum proficiency with tools and equipment use and procedures is needed.

OneStop Medical Equipment Maintenance  OneStop, JFCS’ Durable Home Medical Equipment program relies on volunteers to assist with with medical equipment inspection, sanitation and repair.  If you are mechanically inclined or industrious with cleaning activities, JFCS could use your help. OneStop is located at Pima St.  & Alvernon Way.

OneStop Administrative Assistance  Volunteers assist with completion of paperwork, data entry, filing and in-person contact with clients and their families.  Activities include: processing new equipment sales, general filing, returning calls for service & equipment, stocking the showroom, returning items to the warehouse, distributing client surveys and client follow-up.

Outreach  JFCS is invited to numerous community and agency fairs. Volunteers are needed to attend and staff tables at these fairs.  Volunteering for this assignment would require training about the agency and a passion to speak to the public about JFCS.

Create Beautiful Centerpieces  .Beginning in 2012 JFCS  will be creating beautiful centerpieces that will be available for rent for any event. The centerpiece represents a donation to JFCS programs.  Jjoin our fabulous group of volunteers who decorate our centrepieces and refresh them between events.  Make new friends, chat about the latest books, movies, restaurants, etc. as we work on our centerpieces. Volunteers are also needed to deliver and pick up the centerpieces from various events.

Matza & More   For more than 40 years, JFCS has brought Passover Seder groceries to families in need in Tucson.  Partnering with every synagogue and congregation in Tucson as well as several local businesses, JFCS volunteers deliver baskets of Kosher groceries for Seder. Volunteers can choose from picking up donated food, setting up and pre-packaging food, assembling the baskets or delivering to the families.

Please complete and submit the volunteer interest form and our Volunteer Services Manager will contact you for an interview. Thank you for your interest!
